Acupuncture for Mental Health

More and more individuals are seeking out acupuncture in the United Kingdom for mental health problems, a new study seems to indicate. Acupuncture is one aspect of traditional Chinese medicine.

One theory of acupunctre asserts that we have energy that flows through us called qi (pronounced chee), which flows through channels called meridians. If the meridians become blocked, the energy cannot flow freely through us. According to the theory, the blockage or inability for qi to flow through the meridians causes illness or pain.

In acupuncture, very small needles are placed in specific point of the body, which is supposed to unblock the meridians and help us heal from illness or pain.

The survey taken of individeuals in the United Kingdom showed that 57% of individuals getting acupuncture treatment for mental health were under 40 years of ag, and one third of these individuals were men.

Furthermore, the researchers discovered that 18% of individuals receiving acupuncture for emotional issues were seeking the treamtne for depression, 15% for anxiety, and 10% for insomnia. Additionally, stress was another popular reason individuals in the UK sought treatment with acupuncture.

Have you ever gotten an acupuncture treatment? Did it help relieve your stress, help relax you, or help you feel better mentally?
