Coping With First Date Anxiety
It is normal to feel anxious about a first date. You want to make a good impression on your date, but you also need to be yourself. If you are feeling anxious about a first date, try using some of these tips to combat nervousness.
1. Have lunch. As the website The Survey Method suggests, dinner is more intimate and romantic while lunch is more casual. Being in a more casual setting might help to alleviate some of the nervousness you are feeling. Doing a fun activity afterward will give you an opportunity to get to know each other better as well.
2. Share Common Interests. When you are planning a first date, plan something that will interest both of you. This will not only ensure both of you have a good time, but will also give you a chance to learn more about one another.
3. Double date or group date. If you are feeling particularly anxious about the first date, a double date or group date might be a good idea. A group date allows you to get to know your date without as much pressure as there is on a one-on-one date. Groups often generate more conversation topics, and you can easily learn about your date’s interests through these conversations. Do something fun as a group, such as going to lunch, visiting the zoo, or playing a game of mini-golf or bowling.
4. Go somewhere public. Always go somewhere public for the first date. This way, you have an escape if you need one. If the date isn’t going well, you can each go your separate ways afterward.
I hope these tips ease your nervousness about first dates. Remember to be yourself. And if the date doesn’t work out, don’t be too discouraged; there are plenty of other fish in the sea.
